The Price Of Space

The Price Of Space – Space-Comm Expo 2022
Early September sees the UK’s largest exhibition focused on the commercial future of space for business, defence and aerospace.
With the UK contributing 6.5% of the global space market, and ambitions to grow this to 10% by 2030, Space is big. It is also very costly. The final frontier offers many business opportunities, none more so than in the realms of hardware and software development. Yet the defence and aerospace sectors have, to date, consistently seen vast amounts of money wasted on poor software development. Quite simply, to be successful, lessons from the past will have to be learned.
Ed Liversidge, the MD & Chief Software Engineer for Harmonic Software Systems, who for over 20 years has been involved in software testing and fault isolation for projects for the likes of Leonardo, Audi and Saab states:
“Now, more than ever, the quality of software is critical. With the vast amounts of money at stake and the time wasted on poor software development, it is vital to get it right from the outset. Time and time again I see poor software development holding back deadlines, sometimes for years. That is why I started the company, to solve critical VxWorks and embedded software problems to prevent project failure. And from what I can see it’s not going away fast. Why? Companies seldom have a strong philosophy to underpin their software development. At HSS we Document, Develop and Test Embedded Software to the highest possible quality. That is our mantra, our philosophy. That is why we exist. And it should be Industry-Wide. Implement that … and the industry will save billions.”
And he adds “On a lighter note, I urge you to see quality software as a means to boldly go where no man has gone before … rather than not getting off the ground in the first place”.
As we progessively move to serve the Space industry, Harmonic Software Systems would like to reach out to invite you to attend the Space-Comm Expo 2022 and meet with Ed and colleagues on stand M2 to discuss your projects and how we can help.
